2013’s choices in children's Christmas books are heartfelt, sometimes classic, and beautifully written with bits of humor tossed in for good measure. And out of all of those holiday tried-and-trues, I’ve accumulated a short-list of 3 stories that are guaranteed to pluck at the heartstrings of children and adults alike.
These books are positively perfect, instilling awesome memories of candy canes, gumdrops, and green thieves tasked with stealing gifts and delicious grub of trusting townspeople. The following among the best Christmas books 2013 are ones that you’re never too old or too young to read and hear – the ones that make for a PERFECT Christmas season.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! by Dr. Seuss
This story is timeless! For generations, the tale of the Grinch has been told around fireplaces and holiday tables, delighting and exciting with rhymes and a lovably repulsive character. From the mind of an ever-interesting author, this book is everything that you could possibly imagine because it was made entirely from imagination.
No one knows really who Dr. Seuss modeled the well-known Grinch from, but he’s a green, furry creature with a loathing for Christmas and a stronger distaste of Who-ville. Seuss weaves a tale about the spirit of the holidays and learning how to appreciate everything you have.
“For he knew every Who down in Who-ville beneath
Was busy now, hanging a mistletoe wreath.”

Llama Llama Holiday Drama by Anna Dewdney
Llama Llama is a new Christmas character with a beautiful holiday spirit! He and Mama Llama share everything together, and have the greatest bond as mother and son. However, on this holiday season, Llama Llama is a little too eager, over-excited, and anxious about Christmas. When will it come? How long will he have to wait? Is Mama Llama going to help him pass the time with games, laughter, and Christmas-themed activities? You bet! Shopping, rushing, decorating – it’s all here as Llama Llama and his Mama Llama eagerly prepare for their holiday.
“The true gift is, we have each other!”

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (Little Golden Book) by Rick Bunsen
Everyone knows Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer! His shiny nose and sweet demeanor are legendary, as are the other reindeer that bullied Rudolph because of his special talents. In this true classic, Santa Claus recognize Rudolph’s abilities, asking him to guide the journey on Christmas Eve. To the delight of Rudolph, his problems all but disappear when he’s given an important task as fearless leader of Kris Kringle’s sleigh.
“And Santa was right, as he usually is. The fog was as thick as a soda’s white fizz.”
