Helpful Books For 9-Year Old Girls

Books for 9-year olds in 2013 should be educational, innovative, and understanding of a child's changing mind and body. Little girls are especially influenced at this age, taking life lessons and advice from everything they read. Helpful, informative stories are 100 times better than harmful, poorly directed tabloids!

Start your youngster off on the right foot with tales that appeal to her heart, emotions, and thoughts.

The Care and Keeping of You: The Body Book for Younger Girls (Valorie Schaefer)

For girls entering their preteen years, this book is essential! It explains everything that might be brought up in personal conversation between parent-and-daughter. 3 characters lead little ladies through talks and how-tos about their changing bodies, from pimples to periods and beyond. They'll learn about the importance of excellent hygiene, as well as the management of confusing, flustering emotions; all explained in an understanding, kid-friendly way. It's an expansive view into growing up!

Wonder (R.J. Palacio)

A fiction novel that packs a powerful realistic punch, this book is about a little boy, August Pullman, born with a facial deformity. He's been homeschooled his entire life, up until the 5th grade, when he discovers that kids can be cruel and public school is a challenge. Subjected to bullying, Auggie takes a stand, gaining new friends, personal respect, and acceptance. For children who've ever dealt with the unkind words of others, this book is a beacon of hope and courage.

The Care and Keeping of You 2: The Body Book for Older Girls (Cara Natterson)

The second in the duo of girls' body books, this one is geared towards 9 and olders who have already learned all they can from the first book. It's a more in-depth look at peer pressure, personal care, exercise, and dealing with the mental and emotional aspects of growing up.
